Live rain radar, current conditions, an hour-by-hour outlook and a seven-day forecast for Singapore, with original local weather writing.

Today's briefing

Singapore is experiencing warm, humid conditions with a current temperature of 31 degrees Celsius feeling closer to 34 degrees due to the moisture in the air, and you should expect frequent heavy showers throughout the day with a 99 percent chance of rain. Today's high will reach 31 degrees with a low of 25 degrees, accompanied by moderate winds of 13 kilometres per hour, while the UV index sits at a very high level of 8, so sunscreen and protective clothing are essential even during cloudy spells. Bring along an umbrella or rain jacket and consider breathable, light-coloured clothing that dries quickly, as wet conditions are virtually certain. Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday will remain wet with a 99 percent rain chance and a high of 31 degrees, while Sunday should see some improvement with a 76 percent rain probability and the same maximum temperature.

Singapore weather, explained

How to read the Singapore forecast

Singapore weather runs on a different clock to temperate cities. The morning is almost always the driest and clearest part of the day. By noon the heat builds, and between 2pm and 6pm the convective energy triggers the thunderstorms that account for much of the city-state's rainfall. The hourly strip is therefore more useful here than elsewhere: it tells you whether the storm is early, late or skipping today entirely. The seven-day outlook is reliable at the two to three day range; beyond that, Singapore's equatorial position makes precision forecasting harder.

Singapore weather and the two monsoons

Singapore does not have four seasons but it does have two distinct monsoon seasons. The north-east monsoon runs roughly from December to March, bringing more prolonged rain and slightly cooler overnight temperatures. The south-west monsoon covers June to September and is generally drier, but carries the risk of haze from land-clearing fires on Sumatra and Borneo. Between the two monsoons, in April-May and October-November, intense afternoon thunderstorms and Sumatra squalls are at their most frequent. The practical result is that carrying a compact umbrella is sensible year-round.

UV and heat in Singapore

Singapore sits just one degree north of the equator, which means the sun passes almost directly overhead around the solstices. The UV index regularly reaches 12 or above between 11am and 2pm on clear days — the highest category on the WHO scale. Skin can burn in under eight minutes without protection. The heat index, which combines temperature and humidity, often exceeds 40°C in the afternoon even when the air temperature is 'only' 33°C. Plan any sustained outdoor activity for before 9am or after 5pm, drink water constantly, and take shade breaks seriously.
